Board of Membership

Position Title:  Member, Board of Membership

Term:  3 years

Overview
The Board of Membership is responsible for welcoming and integrating new members into the life of Plymouth.  In addition the board is charged with enhancing, initiating and/or managing opportunities for members to belong and connect with each other and the life of the church, such as the establishment and nurture of small groups.  The board also addresses long-term membership issues, such as recruitment, retention, growth and diversity.

The Board performs these tasks primarily by organizing and managing new member classes and by seeking ways to strengthen member involvement in church life and nurture connection and relationships among members.

Meetings

• The Board meets monthly.  (Currently the board meets on the second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.)
• Meetings are usually held at the church.
• The purpose of the meetings is to plan the Board’s work, schedule and assign duties, review and improve work processes, share relevant information about the Board’s work and learn about congregational news.

Retreats and Other Events
In addition to attending the regular monthly meetings, members are expected to participate in Leadership Day.

Communication
E-mail is the primary communication vehicle for the Board of Membership.

Committees
The Board of Membership currently does not have committees.  However, subcommittees and task forces may be formed as necessary.

Responsibilities
Individuals who become members of the Board of Membership commit to:

• Attend worship services as faithfully as possible and contribute toward the financial support of the church.
• Attend all meetings of the Board of Membership.
• Assist with new member classes, which are held three to four times annually and run on two Sundays each time.  This work includes such tasks as: leading table discussions; moderating classes; aranging for speakers; calling or e-mailing potential participants; recruiting new member hosts; coordinating arrangements for new member brunches; attending the brunches; planning and improving the curriculum.
• Staff the Welcome Table after the 10:30 service several times per year.
• Serve as “greeters and pourers” during the assigned month.
• Volunteer for other Board responsibilities.
