Upcoming events of note

Lent 2012--read "A Time for Healing" essay by Senior Minister James Gertmenian and learn about opportunities for special reflections.

Literary Witnesses events: Minnesota's Poet Laureate reads Feb. 5 (noon, chapel); Eric Utne reads from Brenda, My Darling Feb. 12 (noon, Jackman).

Lenfestey Reads Feb. 26
In 1974, James Lenfestey came upon Cold Mountain: 100 Poems of the Tang Dynasty Poet Han-Shan. The result 33 years later is his collection of poems inspired by the form and sensibility of that Chinese hermit poet, yet brimming with his own humor. At noon, Feb. 26, in the chapel, Lenfestey will read from A Cartload of Scrolls: 100 Poems in the Manner of the Tang Dynasty Hermit Poet Han-Shan and will also show a short film of his pilgrimage to China where he paid homage to Han-Shan. Jim Lenfestey chairs the Literary Witness Program at Plymouth. Sponsored by the Sumac Fellowship Group.

Community sing to benefit Minnesotans United for All Families. Saturday February 18, 2012, at 7p.m. Minnesota Community SINGS presents a fun evening of group singing—all voices welcome, songsheets provided. Singing will be led by Bret Hesla, Mary Preus and Dan Chouinard, three of the Twin Cities’ favorite songleaders. Proceeds go towards the effort to defeat the proposed constitutional amendment which would ban marriage for same-sex couples in Minnesota. Together we’ll sing songs about love, pop songs, folk songs, parodies, golden oldies and more. Saturday, Feb. 18, 7pm. At Calvary Lutheran Church, 3901 Chicago Ave. S., Minneapolis. Tickets at the door: $15/adults, $5/kids. For more info, please email mnsings@gmail.com or visit mnsings.com
