Benevolence -
Our giving process

The mission of the Benevolence Committee is to thoughtfully allocate a portion of the church's budget to nonprofits that meet the needs of our local and wider communities.

Our areas of focus fall into a variety of categories: Children, Youth and Families; Church and Neighborhood; Emergency; Health and Mental Health; Housing and Hunger; and International and Immigration.

The Committee extends invitations to selected nonprofit organizationsm which submit online applications by early December. Many of our grant recipients have long-standing ties to the church or its members.

During the winter and spring, Benevolence Committee members review each organization’s application and make personal visits to each agency to report on them. Recommendations are based on the set of published guidelines. At the end of the visit cycle, all requests for funds are reviewed and awards are determined according to funds available.

At the end of the church year after the budget is finalized for the upcoming fiscal year, the Committee submits its funding decisions for approval at the Annual Meeting. Benevolence grants are sent out during the next fiscal year, usually after Christmas and Easter.
