Gifting Stocks

Gifts of stock are always welcome and the process isn’t difficult. Plymouth maintains an account at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. The stock gift is transferred from the donor’s broker to Morgan Stanley and immediately sold.

Stock is often donated in December, but please allow enough time for the transfer to take place before Dec. 31. Remember that stocks don’t necessarily reach their annual high late in December, and it might be advantageous to make stock gifts at other times of the year. Due to processing costs, stock gifts should have a value of at least $1,000.
