The Anti-Marriage Equality Amendment: A Pro-Marriage Equality Advocate’s View from a Libertarian/Conservative Constitutional Scholar
Dale Carpenter

Audio of talk [MP3]
A strong proponent of marriage equality and gay rights, Dale Carpenter, Earl R. Larson Professor of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law at the University of Minnesota Law School, will detail his argument against the amendment, describing the legal issues as well as aspects of sociology, psychology and history.

Professor Carpenter is the author of Flagrant Conduct: The Story of Lawrence v. Texas, the landmark Supreme Court decision that promises to be the Brown v. Board of Education of gay rights. Equal parts investigative legal history and compelling detective tale, Flagrant Conduct (March 2012, W.W. Norton) is the first complete history of the case that expanded the legal rights of millions of gay and lesbian Americans. Given the so-called marriage amendment proposal that Minnesotans will be voting on in November 2012, Adult Forum wanted to provide an opportunity to learn more about the legal and broader aspects of this amendment proposal.
