Global Connections

The Global Connections Committee is a program of the Outreach Board and is a catalyst for increasing awareness and engagement of Plymouth members with peoples, cultures and issues of justice in the world. The public is often invited to participate in events.

The committee offers programs about global peace issues, and humanitarian and social justice imperatives. The Committee creates or promotes opportunities to engage with peoples of other cultures, both from around the world and in our immediate neighborhoods. We offer support through partnerships with others in the community with global justice agendas, such as the Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers for which Plymouth is the host for monthly meetings.

We are available to provide ideas and develop programs for other Plymouth activities such as Sunday Forum or youth programming. We initiated Plymouth Reads and continue to offer this annual event in which issues of peace, justice and culture are examined through a committee-selected book. We occasionally have requests for home hosting delegations visiting from other countries who are in the Twin Cities for various programs. On occasion, we promote action in the Minnesota Legislature and/or U.S. Congress for issues of justice for peoples in different parts of the world.

Global Connections is especially interested in assisting in the launching of new programming such as was done with the Plymouth American Indian Initiative (PAII) and OneVillage Partnership. If you have an idea for Plymouth global action, please contact us.

During this time of creating new ways of working at Plymouth, this Committee would also like to have new ideas—and especially, new members—to help with the task of encouraging Plymouth members to become more aware of the global human family.

Please contact the interim Chair, Kathleen Laurila, at 612/868-2003or
