Japan, Sept./Oct. 2010

A trip to Japan, led by Sam King, is planned for this September/October.

The theme of this trip will be Japanese arts, crafts, religion and culture. Kyoto will be the central location, but forays to Hiroshima, a countryside royokan, a Buddhist temple and Tokyo for an experience of Kabuki theatre will also be included. The trip is planned to take place in time for participants to witness the autumn festival, an important element in the Shinto religion, which celebrates the qualities of each season.

Participants will be reading and practicing Japanese poetry forms and/or drawing as a way to commemorate their responses to the journey.
