Historic downtown Plymouth Congregational Church of Minneapolis is hiring a Communications and Marketing Manager. This is an incredible opportunity to work with a progressive faith community embodying radical love and justice in our service, worship, and programs. We seek a full-time communications professional to manage, coordinate, and deliver the primary communications of the congregation, drafting and initiating content to advertise, market, and inform members, visitors, and guests about church programs, events, and services and working with church leaders, boards, and members to develop messaging and communications plans.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism Communications/Marketing or equivalent preferred; Minimum of 5 years of professional communications or marketing experience; and proven skills in graphic design and production and proficiency with website design and management.

Position Summary

The Communications and Marketing Manager of Plymouth Church manages, coordinates, and delivers the primary communications of the organization. This role is both strategic and operational, with responsibilities for a diverse range of outcomes including social media, the church’s website, long-term marketing strategies, and short-term advertising campaigns.

Preferred Qualifications
Professional
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional marketing and/or communications experience; experience in PR welcome
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills with an engaging and mature style (including fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office) and serious attention to detail appreciated
  • Proven skills in graphic design and production using the Adobe Creative Suite for both printed and digital deliverables (i.e. we’d love to see your portfolio)
  • Proficiency with website design and management, electronic newsletter tools (Constant Contact), and website analysis tools
  • Experience in producing content for, and managing engagement on social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok
  • Bachelor’s degree (English, Journalism Communications/Marketing) preferred but not required

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for communications leadership, planning and management, keeping in mind the ways that diverse audiences of the church are best reached by various avenues of communication: staff, members of all ages, neighborhood, wider community, other churches, etc.
  • Works with a communications and marketing committee composed of church leaders and communications professionals to develop strategies and campaigns, create and promote messaging, assess marketing performance and represent the marketing function to church leadership
  • Responsible for the design, editing and publication of print and electronic communications for the church—including newsletters, a quarterly magazine, and various brochures—communicating a clear, compelling and consistent brand identity. Manages church staff and volunteer writers, designers and photographers throughout the process
  • Manages the church’s streaming programs and productions, including broadcast and storage, in collaboration with the Production Manager
  • Creates, manages, coordinates, and publishes the church’s social media presence, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok
  • Oversees the design and usability of the church website and is responsible for all content, keeping information current
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relationships with local news media in coordination with the volunteer Marketing Committee
  • Responsible for design, placement and administration of paid advertising in coordination with the volunteer Marketing Committee
  • Organizes and contributes to a library of photos and videos for use in print and electronic media
  • Develops strategies and criteria for the effective use of member and visitor databases for communications purposes
  • Responsible for proactive recruiting and managing of volunteers to expand capabilities of the church’s marketing and communications function
  • Attend meetings of the Deacons and the Leadership Council as needed, to keep up-to-date with their activities, concerns, and communications needs
  • Provide support and execution for the annual Stewardship campaign and any capital campaigns
  • Manages the communications budget and the marketing budget in coordination with the Marketing Committee

  • This position requires sound judgment and the ability to represent the church to the public
  • This position is accountable to the overall mission of the church and maintaining collegial relationships with staff, other colleagues, church leaders, the congregation in general and visitors
