Beneficiaries of Plymouth’s Christmas Offering
Each year Plymouth takes a Christmas Offering, the beneficiary of which is another organization in the community whose efforts make an impact for good. This morning’s Forum will introduce this organization to the congregation.
Anticipating the wondrous light of Christmas that God gifts us, we reaffirm our covenant call to humbly seek and serve God within, among, and beyond ourselves. We join as beloved community to bring hope, peace, joy, and love into the lives of our neighbors by sharing our abundance in the Christmas Offering, supporting Groveland Emergency Food Shelf, Align Minneapolis, and Every Meal at Green Central Elementary.
Plymouth established Groveland Emergency Food Shelf in the basement of our church over 40 years ago. Groveland is busier than ever and shows no sign of returning to pre-pandemic numbers. Instead, the number of families served in recent months is soaring towards record highs: approximately 6,200 people in September alone.
Align Minneapolis provides services and goods to those experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, including emergency rental assistance to renters at risk of losing their housing. So far in 2022, Align’s ERA program has assisted 93 households.
Every Meal at Green Central Elementary, our newest Outreach program, provides food on weekends, in summers, and over school breaks to children whose families are food insecure. Our financial support helps purchase food Plymouth members distribute in a way that does not draw attention to the students’ needs. At Green Central, around 95 children get groceries each week—double what was projected at the end of last year!
