One of the most beloved traditions at Plymouth is the Christmas Festival. Gathering together to make festive crafts, eat delicious food and sing a few songs is a highlight for many in our Plymouth community, and is always sure to make our building feel full of joy.
However, if we have learned anything in the past 18 months, it is that Plymouth is much more than a building, and in 2021 and beyond, we are called to live out our faith beyond our walls, spilling out our joy, our love and our good news into the streets of Minneapolis.
On December 18th, our entire church community, led by the Leadership Council, are hosting our first ever Community Christmas festival, in our very own parking lot. Any and everyone is invited!
At 2pm, wander the path of the Holy Family, led by shepherds from Nazareth to Bethlehem as you stop at different spots along our Living Nativity. Make sure you keep an eye out for our angel in the sky, and our friendly beasts!
If you’ve been part of Advent in a Box or Ornaments in a Box, bring your ornaments to add to our community Christmas tree, or come and make some animal-friendly ornaments on site! Listen to festive music, grab a few Christmas cookies, and connect with friends you know, and those you’ve yet to meet.
We will be gathering money for the Groveland Emergency Food Shelf and items for St. Stephen’s shelter, to ensure that our neighbors in need also have a Merry Christmas.
As the afternoon turns to sundown (about 3:30) we will light up our giant Christmas tree for the whole community to see and raise our voices in song together.
This festival will feel both deeply familiar, and brand new, which is exactly what we, and the world, need. After all, in the words of our own Rev. Dr. DeWayne L. Davis, “It should be different here.”
