Global Justice
Presented in collaboration with the Immigrant Welcoming Work Group
From a faith-based perspective and experiences in Guatemala and Honduras, Thom Haines of Mayflower’s Global Justice Advocacy Team will be presenting on the root causes of migration to the United States from Central America. Thom will challenge the narrative often seen in main-stream media by examining the involvement of the U.S. in Honduras and Guatemala and discuss the role U.S. policy plays in driving migration. He will share what he learned presenting to the U.S. Embassy staff in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Thom Haines chairs Mayflower UCC’s Global Justice Advocacy Team. In that role, he has led many delegations to Guatemala and participated in delegations to Honduras, Haiti, Colombia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. Thom believes that UCC partnerships are a key to understanding global issues and for advocating for needed change. Thom is an assistant county attorney and former Lutheran pastor. He is one of the executive producers of Gold Fever.
