RJI: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality

May 27 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Plymouth Listens and Learns Together

We ask you to join us in learning about the work of Bryan Stevenson. He has committed his life to achieving racial justice through confronting our shared history of how racial injustice emerged, evolved and continues to threaten our country.

As Bryan Stevenson has said: “Why history? There’s a limit to the rule of law (e.g., Brown v. Board of Education) if the decision makers are shaped by narratives that are a creation of our distorted history. There are limits to what our courts and institutions will do if we are not grounded in an historical narrative that has to change.”

Learn about Bryan Stevenson and the work of the Equal Justice Initiative through any of these ways:

• Watch this 2019 HBO documentary (1 hour, 40 minutes)
• Listen to this 2018 Aspen Institute podcast (65 minutes)
• Listen to his 2012 Ted Talk (23 minutes)
• Read his book Just Mercy (2014)
• available in bookstores
• online at the Hennepin County Library
• or order online at Amazon;
• This book was also made into a 2019 Hollywood movie starring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.

After you’ve watched the documentary or listened to the podcast,
we invite you to join a Zoom conversation facilitated by
