July 17 – September 2022.
We are privileged to be hosting Minnesota Impressions, an exhibition by Gabe Jewell, whose paintings also serve as contemplative companions in support of meditation in collaboration with his father, Richard Jewell, www.Meditationary.org.
Gabe Jewell
Gabriel Jewell is a Minnesota artist based in Rochester, Minnesota, who grew up as a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, attending Sunday school in the 1980s-90s. Gabe became a dedicated artist, painting, and drawing, starting at the age of 16. At 18, he became the Rochester Kiwanis Club Art Student of the Month, won two awards in a regional high school art competition, and won one of five awards in a Southeast Minnesota adult art exhibition. In 2018 in Rochester, he had his first one-person exhibition.
Artist Statement-
Making art brings energy and vibrance you can get to know like a favorite song or album. I prize heart and subject matter and use structure to get there, often using symbolism over realism.
Gabe’s works of art are notable for their bright colors, almost like stained glass, and for their richly complex, imaginative, and semi-abstract characters and symbolism.
Over three dozen of Gabe’s paintings are used in Richard Jewell’s (his father) free online meditation dictionary, www.Meditationary.org. His works on the website have become contemplative companions for the book’s written guidelines and definitions, and many of the originals will be on display in this exhibition.
