Update on Sustaining Plymouth Activities

Sunday, May 31, at 10 AM in the chapel and via livestream

Join the members of the Five-Year Plan Work Group and the newly launched Long-Term Sustainability Taskforce, both groups chartered by the Board of Finance and Administration (BoFA). We will share an overview of the status and updates to Plymouth’s long-term financial model, and an introduction to the work and timeline of the Long-Term Sustainability Taskforce.

A Pilgrimage of Lament and Love

Meet in Jones Commons to join with other Plymouth members on a four-block walk to visit Alex Pretti’s memorial in a pilgrimage of lament and love for our neighbors. We will sing songs on the way, carry flowers, and join in prayer at the site. Children and families welcome. Flowers will be provided. Dress for the weather.

After the prayer, you can join us for donuts at Glam Doll, eat at any of the restaurants on the block in solidarity, or return to Plymouth for worship at 11 AM.

If you cannot attend, but you wish to be represented, let Kate (katet@plymouth.org) or Birdie (birdiec@plymouth.org) know, and we will bring a flower for you and leave it at the memorial.

Board of Spiritual Formation – Sunday Table

Every Sunday, from 9:30 to 11:30 during the summer, a representative of the Board of Spiritual Formation will be in Jones Common to answer questions and receive suggestions about spirituality at Plymouth.

Writing Your Sacred Journey: Community & Revision – June 27 at 1:30 PM

Explore the sacred dimension of your stories with Elizabeth Jarrett Andrew. Stephen King says, “Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open”—but we can open that door slowly and deliberately. We’ll explore sharing writing as one life-giving way to “see it again.” How can we preserve our sense of safety, freedom, and exploration while facing an audience? Might sharing memoirs deepen our connections with others?

Sunday Forum – National Eagle Center on June 8 @ 9 AM

Learn about eagle biology, ecology, natural history, and cultural connections in an engaging and entertaining presentation by one of our naturalist interpreters. The program will be followed by a Q&A featuring one of our eagle ambassadors, so have your questions ready.

Jarod Lueck, Avian Care Assistant Manager, graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in captive wildlife. He has been with the National Eagle Center since 2017 and has been educating about raptors for over 10 years. His ability to spot wildlife is beyond peer. When Jarod is not educating people about eagles, he typically is out enjoying fishing on the Mississippi River backwaters.

Get a Soul Friend for the Summer! Sign up by May 23

Anam Cara (Gaelic for ‘Soul Friend’) is a new summer program that pairs Plymouth members to accompany each other as spiritual companions over the summer months. In the busy summer season, it can be easy to feel disconnected from your faith community

Sign up by May 23, and you will be paired with someone by early June. You are invited to connect twice a month, June through August, in person or virtually. Kate Taber will provide an optional template for what connecting can look like, including conversation prompts. You are also invited to hold one another in prayer. Sign up here!

Book Study: The Serviceberry – June 3, 24, July 8 , & full day off-site (date TBD)

This is a group inquiry into the concepts of gift economies offered in the ServiceBerry book. We will use intentional curiosity to help us understand and consider this economic structure, which has been used for over 200,000 years.

June 3, June 24, July 8 – 6:30 pm at Plymouth Church

Date TBD by participants – full-day, off-site.

Short readings from nature writers, archaeologists, and spiritual prophets will give context to the book and encourage curiosity and connections with those who came before us. Led by David Astin and sponsored by Spiritual Formation. More details and RSVP here.

Bird Watching Field Trip! May 14 and May 17.

Join birder and member David Astin for Spring Bird Migration Day at Crex Meadows Wildlife Refuge for a birding field trip, either Thursday, May 14, or Saturday, May 17 (attend one or both). We will meet at the Visitor Center at the Refuge at 8:30 am. We will conclude by lunchtime, and you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch.

We will see a large, diverse population of birds as they rush north to create the next generation. You will experience the energy and excitement generated by this incredible natural event, perhaps discovering a Spiritual Practice that makes you feel a part of the Creation. All ages welcome. Led by David Astin and Co-sponsored by the Board of Spiritual Formation and One More Chair. Email sdastin@comcast.net.
