Update on the Plymouth Embroideries

Those entering the Guild Hall recently have likely noticed that the west wall is missing the usual adornment of an embroidery.  The Board for the Arts arranged for all four embroideries to be professionally cleaned (and frozen to rid them of any pests) and delivered them to the Midwest Art Conservation Center for that purpose last month.  The embroideries should return to Plymouth sometime in August, and the Board expects one to be hanging in Guild Hall by Rally Sunday.

In addition to the direct care of the embroideries, the Board for the Arts collaborated with the Board of Finance and Administration (BoFA) to develop an endowed fund specifically to attend to the long-term care and preservation of the Plymouth embroideries and embroidered furnishings.  BoFA approved the creation of that endowment fund in April, and to date, $11,000 has been pledged toward it.

The fund’s goal is $50,000.  If you have interest in learning more details about the Plymouth Embroidery Endowment, please contact Dan Dressen.  His email address is dressen@stolaf.edu.

Additionally, all are invited to visit the Jack Parsons room (just west of the Library) to view the informative display about the embroideries, the story of their creation, the people involved, and the context from which they were conceived.
