Living Into Our Values: Broadening Housing Opportunity in Our Community and Expanding Support for Plymouth
Plymouth Congregational Church has a long history of supporting broader housing opportunities for all. Are there ways that Plymouth members can support expanding housing opportunity and also better support the financial sustainability of Plymouth Congregational Church?
For the last three years and the next three (2026 through 2028), the State of Minnesota offers a way for any state income taxpayers to choose to redirect a portion of their income tax liability toward a qualifying affordable housing project (or a general affordable housing fund) and receive 85 cents in a State Housing Tax Credit for every dollar they contribute to affordable housing. Learn more about the MN State Tax Credit Program and Contribution Fund here.
As we continue to explore ways to strengthen Plymouth Church’s sustainability, one idea that we have is to encourage congregants to consider creating additional affordable housing opportunity by participating in the program and then redirecting the resulting tax credit to Plymouth Church as one way to ‘supercharge’ your giving, connecting our faith community’s needs to the benefits that come from contributing directly to new housing opportunity for all in our community. Carrie Sauter and I will be tabling and hosting other informational presentations at Plymouth to help congregants consider if this is of interest to them.
Please look for additional announcements and presentations (which will be scheduled soon) in the Friday newsletter or find us at 9:00 at the Church in Jones Commons on Sundays to learn more.
Thank you!
