Christmas Offering
“Every one of these people is ours, just like we are theirs. We belong to them, they belong to us.” – James Baldwin.
This Christmas season, we reflect on the Christmas story not only as a tale of divine wonder, but one of displacement, hardship, and human need. Mary and Joseph were travelers under government order, forced to journey with no protection. They experienced what so many still do today: the fear of being turned away, of not belonging, of finding no shelter when it is most needed.
In every family without safe and stable housing, every migrant fleeing violence and searching for a better life, every parent trying to give their child a future, we see the reflection of Mary and Joseph; we see ourselves. The story asks us not only to marvel at the birth of hope, but to look WITHIN, to recognize ourselves in each person’s struggles, and to open our own doors.
This Christmas season, we are asking for your support for our partners working AMONG our neighbors from near and far to offer warmth, kindness, and safety in an uncertain world. When we support organizations that provide shelter, advocate for fair housing, and defend the rights of immigrants, we carry the Christmas story BEYOND—not as bystanders, but as innkeepers who finally say, “Come in. There is room here.”
In collaboration with the Board of Outreach, the Immigration Justice Committee, and the Housing Justice Committee of Plymouth Congregational Church, our 2025 Christmas offering supports the housing justice work done by:
- Refugee Housing MN
- Align Minneapolis (formerly Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness)
