This I Believe | Racial Justice Is Personal

The events of the past few years have laid bare the deep and continuing social injustices in our community and country. As we learn more about society’s racial inequities, we are encouraged to look inward and reflect on our own participation in a system that disproportionately advantages white people.

This I Believe is an opportunity for you to reflect on your own experience and understanding – past or present – of racism, inequity, and/or white culture, and give voice to your own journey. You are also encouraged to put a voice to how you want to move forward. If you are open to sharing your story with others in a small group or with the larger Plymouth community, we encourage you to do so.

We hope that these personal stories will serve as a catalyst for transformation in our own lives and in our community. This is a journey that has various steps along the way. Each step offers an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. You are welcome to take as few or as many of the steps as you like. You are free to move at your own pace and there are supportive resources available to you at each of the steps.

  • Writing your story.
  • Sharing your story with a few other writers at a writing round table.
  • Recording and sharing your story with the Plymouth community.

While you are encouraged to complete the journey, you are welcome to take only the steps you wish to participate in.
