Rev. JT Smiedendorf
Intentional Interim Minister
Rev. J.T. Smiedendorf joined Plymouth Congregational Church as Intentional Interim Minister in March 2025, coming to us from his home in Colorado.
Ordained in 2001, JT is an experienced interim pastor who helps large churches envision and travel new pathways forward into their next chapter.
Originally from southwest Michigan, JT earned his BA (Magna Cum Laude) at Albion College, an MS from the University of Arizona, and an MDiv from the Iliff School of Theology (Denver). Previously, he worked as a pastor in churches in Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, and Colorado. He holds ministerial standing in the United Church of Christ. He and his wife, Allison, also work together in a Colorado-based retreat ministry serving spiritually oriented leaders.
Pastor JT is known for bringing a grounded presence and thoughtful sermons combined with a passion for vital worship and spiritual practice that is lived out in the pursuit of a Beloved Community where there is justice for people and the planet.
Birdie Cunningham
Director of Congregational Care
Birdie Cunningham, MA, has twenty years of experience in public health, works in hospice, is a Death Doula, and is a student at United Theological Seminary pursuing an MDiv in Interreligious Chaplaincy. She has learned the art of compassion through advanced study in traditional and non-traditional spiritual and secular settings. She offers a unique blend of health education to the grief experience and thrives in creating a holistic space for personal understanding and growth. birdiec@plymouth.org.
