Groveland Food Shelf

Some of the most important ministry at Plymouth happens in its basement. Groveland Food Shelf — founded in Plymouth and housed here ever since — has served the Stevens Square, Whittier, and near-downtown neighborhoods for decades, welcoming hundreds of neighbors each week, both housed and unhoused.

Its eligibility policy is a single sentence: if you need food, you are eligible. Groveland operates on a client-choice model, where guests shop for what they like and need, just as anyone shops for groceries — because food assistance should come with dignity, not a pre-packed box.

Plymouth is more than Groveland's landlord: our doors open early on the coldest and hottest days so no one waits outside, our members volunteer week in and week out, and our congregation's gifts of food and funds help keep the shelves full. Stevens Square Community Organization

For too many Minnesota children, the school week ends and the food runs out. Every Meal exists to close that gap — placing bags of nutritious, kid-friendly food directly and discreetly into students' backpacks on Fridays, so that weekends, summers, and school breaks don't mean going hungry.

Through hundreds of partner schools across the state, thousands of children receive this quiet act of care every single week — no qualifications required, no attention drawn, just food and dignity and a better Monday.

VocalEssence

Some partnerships begin with a handshake; this one began with a downbeat. In 1969, Plymouth's Organist-Choirmaster Philip Brunelle founded what was then called the Plymouth Music Series — a choral venture born right here at 1900 Nicollet. More than half a century later, that venture is VocalEssence, one of the world's premier choral organizations, renowned for commissioning new works, championing composers the concert hall has too long overlooked, and proving season after season that choral music is a living, breathing art.

And for all its global reach, its heart has stayed local: programs like WITNESS, celebrating Black composers and artists, and ¡Cantaré!, bringing Mexican composers into Minnesota classrooms, strengthen this community one song at a time. What began in Plymouth's sanctuary now sounds wherever Minnesotans gather to sing — and we couldn't be prouder of where it started.

Family Tree Clinic

Family Tree Clinic has been Plymouth’s neighbor since 2021, when it moved from St. Paul to create a newer, larger space for its patients. A leader in sexual and reproductive health services, Family Tree is an oasis of care for both LGBTQ and cisgender people locally and across the nation.

Welcoming People, Welcoming Atmosphere: Seventy percent of Family Tree’s patients are LGBTQ, 80% have low incomes, and 20% are unhoused or have housing instability. The clinic offers robust, trauma-informed, and age- and gender-appropriate sexual education in the

clinic, in schools, and in juvenile detention centers.

Vivabu

VivaBú is a Spanish immersion early childhood center that has been part of Plymouth Church since 2018. They serve children ages 3 months to 5 years, providing a nurturing and engaging environment during these important early years of development.

Their teaching team comprises passionate Hispanic educators from across Latin America and the United States. Together, we share a common goal: to help children grow up bilingual and well-prepared for their academic journey and beyond. We believe that early language exposure builds communication skills while fostering cultural awareness and confidence.

zAmya Theater Project

zAmya Theater Project uses theater to advance housing justice. Since 2004, the Minneapolis-based company has brought housed and unhoused neighbors together to create and perform original productions drawn from lived experience.

zAmya employs a troupe of performers who have experienced homelessness, and troupe members help shape the organization at every level, including seats on its board of directors. Its work has reached audiences in hundreds of Minnesota venues, from theaters and shelters to boardrooms and parks.

MONARCA

MONARCA is a community organization supporting immigrant communities in the Twin Cities. Plymouth partners with MONARCA on direct support, advocacy, and education work related to immigrant rights and justice.

Immigrant Defense Network

The Immigrant Defense Network provides legal support and advocacy for immigrants facing detention and deportation. Plymouth’s Immigrant Justice Committee supports the network through grants, volunteers, and coordination.

Habitat for Humanity

Plymouth members build homes alongside Habitat for Humanity each year — showing up in communities across the Twin Cities to do the physical work of housing justice. No construction experience is required, just a willingness to show up and work alongside neighbors.

Backpack Project MN

Backpage Project MN provides backpacks filled with daily-use personal care items to young people experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. All of our backpacks are distributed by experienced outreach personnel at Youthlink MN.

Simpson Housing Services

Annual Homeless March & Memorial

Plymouth hosts the Annual Housing March and Memorial each year in partnership with Simpson Housing — a public witness to the lives of those lost to homelessness and a community call to action for housing justice in Minneapolis. The march and memorial draw participants from across the city and reflect Plymouth’s long-standing commitment to housing as a human right.

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative

Founded as the Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation with the creation of supportive housing at Lydia Apartments across LaSalle Avenue from the church, Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative now works with more than 60 congregational partners across the Twin Cities to create affordable and supportive housing and advocate for policies to end homelessness.
