Children, Youth & Families

At Plymouth, children and young people are fully engaged participants of this community — not the church of tomorrow, but the church of today. Our Children, Youth, and Families programming nurtures faith, belonging, and curiosity from early childhood through high school, with dedicated programs for every stage of development.

Kids are known by name here. Families are supported. And the door is always open.

Children in Worship

Families worship together at Plymouth. During the worship, quiet activities and designated spaces are available for bodies who need to move. Educational programming for all ages runs at 10 AM between services during the program year and at 9 AM in summer.

Church School

Church School runs during the program year and takes place on the second floor of the Education Wing during the 10 AM programming hour. It offers children and youth opportunities to explore faith, build relationships, and develop as members of the Plymouth community — with plenty of room for intergenerational connection along the way.

Youth Programming

Plymouth's youth programming for middle and high schoolers is designed to meet young people where they are — in their questions, their passions, and their search for meaning. Youth participate in worship, service, and community life, and have dedicated spaces and programming of their own.

Nina Jonson, Director of Children & Youth Ministries

Anyone who has wandered past the Education Wing on a Sunday morning or Wednesday night knows Nina's approach: joyful, hands-on, and gloriously unafraid of a little glitter. Faith formation, in her hands, is something young people get to touch, make, and occasionally wear home. 

Nina grew up in this church. Her family's roots at Plymouth go back generations — she and her husband were married in the Sanctuary, just like her parents, and her daughters were both baptized and confirmed here. The children she works with now are learning the same stories she learned in these rooms, with an updated social justice twist. 

Before joining the staff, Nina spent her career in youth education and outreach, overseeing education and training at adolescent health clinic myHealth for Teens and Young Adults and enrollment and outreach at Minnesota Independence College and Community. She holds a BS in Education with a minor in health and sexuality education from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
